The older one was opened next to the cemetery of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guard_of_Finland\">Guard of Finland<\/a>&nbsp;in 1840\u2019s. The newer cemetery was inaugurated in Taivallahti area in Helsinki in 1895. The chapel of the cemetery was built in 1951 and it was designed by K. R. Photo: Ofer Amir.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cemetery Opening Hours<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The cemetery is open as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>September\u2013April<\/strong><br>Monday to Thursday and Sunday: 9:00\u201316:00<br>Friday: 9:00\u201314:00<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May\u2013August<\/strong><br>Monday to Thursday and Sunday: 9:00\u201321:00<br>Friday: 9:00\u201318:00<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cemetery address is&nbsp;<strong>Tuonelankuja 5<\/strong>.<br>The cemetery is&nbsp;<strong>always closed on Saturdays (Shabbat) and on Jewish holidays<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Men are required to wear a&nbsp;<strong>hat or kippah<\/strong>&nbsp;while on cemetery grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other Jewish cemeteries in Finland that are no longer in use are located in&nbsp;Hamina, H\u00e4meenlinna, Vaasa, and \u00c5land, as well as the&nbsp;old Jewish cemetery adjacent to the Guards\u2019 Cemetery in Hietaniemi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Chevra Kadisha \u2013 Burial Services<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Burial arrangements for members of the Jewish Community of Helsinki are handled by&nbsp;<strong>Chevra Kadisha<\/strong>, a volunteer-based burial society that strictly follows Jewish burial customs.<br>All funerals are conducted&nbsp;<strong>exclusively in accordance with Orthodox Jewish Halacha and tradition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fees (effective from 1 February 2026)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Community member<\/strong>: \u20ac 5,000<br>(includes burial and all related costs and fees)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:12px\">*Member pricing applies only if community membership has been&nbsp;<strong>continuous for at least two (2) years<\/strong>&nbsp;prior to requiring services such as burial. Rejoining the community shortly before services are needed&nbsp;<strong>does not entitle one to reduced fees<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Non-member<\/strong>\u00a0(Halachically Orthodox Jewish): \u20ac 15,000<br>(includes burial and all related costs and fees)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the deceased has no financial means, it is possible to apply for a burial allowance from the deceased\u2019s municipality of residence.
